Businesses operate at greater speeds than ever before. For this reason, both manufacturers and suppliers require more efficient cargo handling, customers - faster delivery of goods, and logistics companies are wondering how to improve their operations.
Optimization of supply
Admittedly, optimizing the "industrial service chain", i.e. the various components that make up shipping and delivery, is a challenge. With so many variable elements as:
- factories and warehouses located in different parts of the world,
- delivery by sea,
- container management in ports,
- truck fleet management,
- rail and air deliveries,
- as well as constantly changing weather conditions and traffic congestion,
Logistics companies are constantly growing up. And since shipping and delivery often involve crossing national borders, security is also key.
Smooth and fast transport of ordered industrial automation components from the manufacturer / supplier to the customer means the need to involve all entities responsible for the delivery. This requires decisions regarding financial, commercial, technical and operational issues. It also means that the supplier, carrier and buyer must be actively involved in the entire process and, most importantly, have continuous access to information and documentation regarding the transport of ordered items through various transit points.
Documentation
Documentation is important not only from the point of view of logistics activities, but also the financial, commercial and accounting operations of the seller, buyer and banks involved in the purchase process. A set of documentation for each transaction allows you to determine the moment and fact of sale, the value of the shipment and make the necessary payments.
In addition, shipped goods are identified at each stage of the delivery process only by means of a set of reliable documents specifying their owner, on the basis of which the customs authorities authorize export or import. There are also many other aspects, such as the conditions of carriage imposed on the carrier in connection with e.g. insurance contracts or the carriage of a particular type of goods.
Therefore, the entire transaction includes a set of standardized documentation created by the buyer and supplier and carriers, as well as documentation required by the customs authorities in the exporting country and importing country, combined with commercial and banking documents. These include:
- waybills CRM / CIM / SMGS / AWB / bill of lading,
- bills / product specifications
- loading lists / manifest
- customs documents
- certificates of origin
- dangerous goods cards
- and finally POD, i.e. the delivery note.
We should remember, however, that Incoterms standard delivery conditions and standardized sets of documents available in digital form make deliveries smoother, problem-free and much faster, and also facilitate international trade.
On the other hand, regardless of the best-organized "industrial service chain", the main principle of fast delivery of automation components remains:
Smaller distance equals shorter delivery time
Therefore, when ordering industrial automation components, you need to consider all the elements of this complex process.
