Do it like Siemens. That's how standards are set in the industrial automation industry

Siemens is undoubtedly one of the most important players in global industrial automation. For decades, the German company has been setting standards in PLC controllers, drive systems, process automation and industrial software. Today, however, Siemens' role goes far beyond classic automation - the company has become a leader in the digital transformation of industry, integrating the world of machines with the cloud, artificial intelligence and digital twins.

The last month has seen several developments that show Siemens is consistently building its future on software, automation and green energy.

Solid results and further software development

In August 2025, Siemens published its financial results for the third quarter of the fiscal year. The company reported a 5 percent increase in revenue, with the Digital Industries segment - responsible for industrial automation and software - once again proving to be one of the drivers of growth.

Software solutions such as Siemens Xcelerator, an open platform integrating design, simulation and production management tools, are becoming increasingly important to the company's revenues. This shows that Siemens is becoming not only a hardware manufacturer, but also a global provider of digital ecosystems that support the entire product lifecycle, from design to operation.

Cooperation with Microsoft and AI in industry

One of the most important trends in Siemens' activities is the integration of artificial intelligence into industrial processes. In July 2025, the company announced the expansion of its strategic cooperation with Microsoft, including the implementation of AI tools in the Siemens Teamcenter environment.

The goal is to create an intelligent engineering assistant that uses AI to speed up product design, document search and production process data analysis. This not only saves time, but also represents a significant step towards more intuitive and automated tools for engineers.

Green transformation and energy production

Siemens is also consistently strengthening its position in the area of energy transition. In August, the company announced several new contracts to supply control systems for wind farms and renewable energy installations. What is more, despite earlier financial problems, the Siemens Energy segment is slowly regaining stability thanks to growing demand for decarbonisation technologies.

In practice, this means that Siemens is increasingly seen not only as a supplier of industrial solutions, but also as a partner in the green transition - from factory automation to smart energy grids.

Siemens as the driving force behind Industry 4.0

Thanks to many years of investment in digitalisation, Siemens has become one of the main architects of Industry 4.0. Their technologies are used in key industries:

  • Automotive - advanced production systems for electromobility.

  • Electronics - precision automation of assembly processes.

  • Pharmaceuticals and chemicals - control and monitoring systems that comply with stringent quality standards.

  • Intralogistics - automatic transport and goods flow management systems.

The integration of hardware and software plays a key role here – which is what Siemens does best.

Significance for the market and customers

For industrial customers, Siemens remains the partner of choice when it comes to large-scale projects requiring the highest level of integration. The growing importance of digitalisation is leading companies to turn to ecosystems such as Xcelerator, which minimise risk, shorten implementation times and optimise production processes.

At the same time, Siemens is focusing on the development of cloud services, which makes modern tools more accessible even to medium-sized and smaller companies. This is a direction that could change the balance of power in the automation industry, which has so far been dominated mainly by giants.

Availability of Siemens components

On the European market, including Poland, the availability of original Siemens components such as SIMATIC controllers, SINAMICS drive systems and I/O modules is a major challenge. Automation Trader is a trusted partner offering a wide range of these products. This gives companies the certainty that key elements of their industrial infrastructure will be available on time, avoiding costly downtime.

Direction: software and AI

Recent events clearly show that Siemens does not intend to rest on its laurels. The company is increasingly shifting its focus from hardware production to software and artificial intelligence, while not abandoning the traditional pillars of its business - automation and energy.

In the coming years, Siemens may become a global leader in connecting the physical world of manufacturing with the digital data space. For the entire industrial automation industry, this means new standards, greater competition and a faster pace of innovation.
