Saudi Arabia is dynamically transforming its industrial landscape as it enters the era of Industry 4.0. In the face of global technological changes, the country is not only adapting to new trends, but has set itself an ambitious goal - to become a leader in smart manufacturing and industrial digitalisation.

A new beginning for Saudi industry
The industrial transformation in Saudi Arabia is based on the widespread implementation of modern technologies: automation, artificial intelligence, robotics and advanced data analytics. A key element of this change is the establishment of the Advanced Manufacturing Centre (AMPC) - an integrated ecosystem whose task is to support the development of modern manufacturing methods throughout the country.
The centre is not only a physical institution, but also a strategic platform for cooperation between many entities: the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, as well as the National Industrial Development and Logistics Programme (NIDLP) and the Research and Development Agency (RDIA). The joint mission of these organisations is to accelerate the adaptation of Industry 4.0 solutions and build a competitive, modern industrial economy.
Key initiatives supporting the transformation
One of the pillars of Saudi Arabia's industrial development strategy is the Future Factories Programme, which aims to modernise as many as 4,000 manufacturing plants across the kingdom. The programme promotes the transition from traditional low-wage manufacturing to highly automated and efficient production processes.
Under this initiative, companies can count on financial support for the implementation of automation, which significantly reduces the costs of technological transformation. An example of the programme's effectiveness is Maram Feed Mill Factory, which, thanks to the automation of its packaging lines, has reduced its unskilled workforce by 96% while increasing its profit margin by 25%.
Saudi Arabia also plans to build its own network of ‘industrial lighthouses’ - model production facilities using state-of-the-art technologies. The Industrial Lighthouse programme envisages that by 2030, at least 10 Saudi factories will become part of the prestigious Global Lighthouse Network of the World Economic Forum. The aim is to show the world that Saudi Arabia is capable of implementing 4IR solutions in a comprehensive manner - from production to sustainable development.
Events that inspire and attract investment
In parallel with the development of technology centres and support programmes, Saudi Arabia is investing in promoting its new industrial identity on the international stage. One example is Industrial Transformation Saudi Arabia (ITSA) - part of the global Hannover Messe trade fair network. The event attracts industry leaders, investors and decision-makers from around the world, offering them insight into Saudi Arabia's achievements in advanced industry.
An important aspect of industrial transformation is the development of competencies. As part of AMPC, a network of competence centres has been established to offer practical training and advice to industry professionals. Such activities not only improve the quality of human resources, but also contribute to the localisation of advanced technologies in the domestic market.
All these initiatives are closely linked to Vision 2030, the national strategy for economic diversification and independence from oil. Industry 4.0 is one of its key pillars, enabling Saudi Arabia to increase productivity, improve production quality and attract foreign investment.
Direction: sustainable development
The industrial transformation in the Kingdom does not end with technological innovation. Its goal is also to build a sustainable economic model. By implementing energy-efficient processes, eliminating production waste and digitising supply chains, Saudi Arabia is striving to create an environmentally friendly industry that is ready to meet the challenges of the future.
By accelerating the digital transformation of industry, Saudi Arabia is becoming a significant player on the global map of modern manufacturing. Thanks to coherent strategies, institutional support and huge investments in new technologies, the country is not only catching up with the world's industrial powers, but is also striving to set new standards for an economy based on innovation and knowledge.
Industry 4.0 in Saudi Arabia is not just a slogan - it is a comprehensive strategy that is changing the face of the economy and opening up new prospects for generations of engineers, innovators and entrepreneurs.
