After more than two decades of reliable service in factories around the globe, the Siemens SIMATIC S7-300 is officially entering its end-of-life phase. Siemens announced the Product Phase-Out for the S7-300 and ET 200M series effective October 1, 2023, with the end of standard deliveries scheduled for October 1, 2025 (milestone PM410).

From that point onward, the S7-300 will no longer be manufactured. Only spare parts will remain available - typically for another ten years, until around 2033 - in line with Siemens’ long-term service policy.
Why is the S7-300 being retired?
The move is part of Siemens’ broader strategy to modernise and unify its automation portfolio. The SIMATIC S7-1500 and ET 200SP/ET 200MP families now set the benchmark for industrial control systems, offering higher computing power, integrated security, and seamless connectivity through technologies such as Profinet and OPC UA, fully integrated within the TIA Portal environment.
What does this mean for users?
For manufacturers and system integrators, it’s time to start planning for migration. That doesn’t necessarily mean ripping out existing systems overnight. Siemens provides conversion tools and upgrade paths that allow step-by-step modernisation, enabling plants to move toward the S7-1500 platform while maintaining continuity and compatibility with existing hardware and programs.
