The Ministry of Development introduces a discount on robotization

The relief for robotization announced by the Ministry of Development is to be introduced at the beginning of 2021. Modernization, improvement of the quality, flexibility and comfort of work are the effects that the government expects to achieve thanks to new solutions.

Discount for robotisation

The function of the relief is similar to the relief for research and development. The Ministry points out that the structure of the tax relief is modeled on the experience gained from R&D relief. The robotization allowance is to allow the deduction of 50% of eligible costs related to robotization investments from the tax base in the form of:

- purchase of accessories

- training for employees operating the equipment

- purchase of occupational health and safety equipment

- software purchase

- purchase or leasing of new robots and cobots

Deduction of costs

Deduction of robotization costs during the tax year will be possible at the time of submitting the annual tax return by making a write-off, as in the case of tax relief for research and development works.

According to departmental declarations, the relief is to apply to both natural persons (PIT taxpayers) and organizational units paying CIT. All companies will be able to take advantage of the new tax solutions, regardless of size and industry. In principle, the regulations are to enter into force on January 1, 2021 and will be valid until the end of 2025.

The introduction of regulations from a macroeconomic perspective is to lead to a two and a half times increase in the number of robots in Poland. Robotization will also contribute to the elimination of monotonous and heavy physical work that has so far been performed by humans. This should translate into an increase in production efficiency and an improvement in the competitiveness of the domestic economy against the global market.

How much will it cost?

The Ministry of Development estimates that the robotization relief is to cost the state budget about PLN 150 million in the first year of its application. It is estimated that during the entire five-year period of the relief, the state budget may lose about PLN 1.1 billion. This is due to the fact that the rulers assume that the popularity of robotic investments will increase to PLN 315 million in the fifth year of the tax relief operation. According to the Ministry of Finance, the tax relief is to complement the ecosystem of tax preferences operating in Poland with solutions supporting the opening of new production lines.
