30 per cent of us have no savings

- It gets better. There are more and more Poles who are able to do something with their money so that it does not lose its value," said Maciej Samcik, editor-in-chief of "subiektywnieofinansach.pl" in an interview with Automation Trader.

Taking care of one's savings and preparing a financial cushion for completely unforeseen circumstances is a topic that should be of interest to everyone. For we never know when we will need a financial reserve.

Growing awareness

Of course, not everyone can afford to put aside even small amounts, and there are many who function from one paycheck to the next. However, the heart grows because if someone already has the opportunity to put aside some spare cash, they do not put it in the couch and keep it in the proverbial sock, but consciously invest and put it into tools that can help multiply the returns.

- I think a fairly important issue in this whole discussion is inflation, which has educated everyone heavily economically. - Samcik stated. - And whoever has not been educated is 30 per cent behind on the real value of his money. The ones that he earns, that he already has or invests," he added.

Who is investing and who is not?

The fact that awareness is growing does not automatically mean that things are already perfect on the subject of saving. We still have a lot to improve and learn, especially since the percentage of people who do not know how to invest or do not have anything to invest is really high.

- There are relatively few people who use the capital market as a tool to multiply their money. All the time, this main tool for investing in Poland is real estate. There are quite a few people who actually only use this when it comes to investing capital,' continued Samcik.

Why this particular direction? - If I were to assess it, I think it is mainly because we do not have the kind of money that would already predispose us to invest it. There are 20, 25 maybe 30 per cent of Poles who already have enough money to invest,' he added.

Little or nothing

- 30 per cent of Poles have money, but not much, i.e. a dozen or so, maybe tens of thousands of zlotys for a rainy day. And let's agree, such money is rather kept in the bank, because it has to be available at hand.

As it turns out, however, the group of people who have nothing is still a big piece of the pie. - We have about 30 per cent of Poles who have no savings at all. The reason? Simply that their incomes are still too low for them to afford to put aside more or any amount," added Samcik.

According to the editor-in-chief of "Subjectively about finances", people only start to take a serious interest in investing money when they actually have it. - However, this is going a bit the wrong way in our country, because those who have money, instead of finding out where they can invest it profitably and build a sensible diversified portfolio, they just run to buy a studio apartment. And this is where I think something has gone wrong," he concluded.
