ABB Robotics on its own feet. New automation giant on its way to the stock market

ABB, the global leader in automation and energy, has announced plans to spin off its robotics division as an independent company. The IPO of the new entity is planned for the second quarter of 2026.

This strategic decision aims to accelerate the development of industrial technologies and increase shareholder value.

Time for independence

ABB plans to spin off its robotics division as an independent company, with a market debut scheduled for the second quarter of 2026. The new company will focus on solutions based on artificial intelligence, autonomous mobile robots (AMR) and advanced software. The decision aims to accelerate the development of industrial technologies and increase shareholder value.

The spin-off of the robotics division is a response to changing market conditions and the growing importance of automation in industry. The new company will be able to focus on innovation and faster response to customer needs, which should contribute to its dynamic growth.

Leader in automation

ABB Robotics provides intelligent automation systems, helping customers around the world increase productivity, flexibility and operational simplicity in the face of challenges such as labour shortages and the need for more sustainable growth. The company emphasises that it creates value for customers through a unique offering that includes the broadest range of robotics platforms, including autonomous mobile robots (AMR), software and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions, supported by industry expertise in traditional and emerging industries. More than 80 per cent of ABB Robotics' offerings include software or AI technology components.

In 2024, ABB Robotics generated revenues of $2.3 billion, representing approximately 7 per cent of the ABB Group's total revenues, achieving an EBITA operating margin of 12.1 per cent. The new company will have a strong capital structure, stable cash flow and local production centres in Sweden, China and the US.

What does this mean for the market and investors?

The spin-off of ABB Robotics as an independent company could have a significant impact on the automation and robotics market. The new company will be able to focus on innovation and faster response to customer needs, which should contribute to its dynamic growth. For investors, this means being able to invest directly in a company focused on robotics, which could be attractive in the context of the growing importance of automation in industry.

ABB hopes that a stand-alone listing will allow the unit to improve margins, raise capital faster and regain the momentum lost in recent quarters. The spin-off is also intended as a response to the division's problems resulting from reduced demand from an important contractor, the automotive industry.

ABB's decision to spin off its robotics division as an independent company is a step towards greater flexibility and innovation in the rapidly growing automation sector. The new company will be able to focus on providing advanced solutions based on artificial intelligence and robotics, which can help accelerate the transformation of industries worldwide.
