ABB has introduced a new technology for 3D inspection that makes quality control testing "10 times faster".
ABB says its robotic 3D Quality Control (3DQI) component "can detect defects less than half a human hair and imperceptible."
The cell "will dramatically accelerate production, ensuring accurate and fast testing, making metrology easier and less time-consuming."
The scalable quality control module accelerates the production of various sectors: automotive, aerospace, heavy, machinery and construction, improving quality, productivity and reducing waste.
The 3D Quality Inspection module eliminates the need for manual inspection, while significantly reducing the likelihood of failures and errors.
ABB adds that the key advantages of the 3DQI cell include an accuracy of less than 100 μm (micrometers) and the flexibility provided by its modular design, enabling customers to create a solution tailored to their exact requirements.
3DQI is designed for offline test points and its design allows for customization or expansion.
By using a single 3D optical white light sensor to scan millions of 3D points in an instant, you can create a detailed model of the part being inspected, comparable to a CAD drawing.
The sensors can be carried by any robot with a load capacity of up to 20 kg. This allows for an almost unlimited installation possibilities.
3DQI is the latest technology introduced by ABB and together with FlexArc and FlexLoader it develops the portfolio of intelligent ABB solutions.
Tanja Vainio, Managing Director of ABB Robotics, says: "The ability to accurately measure and control quality is critical to ensuring that products achieve consistency, meet standards and meet customer expectations."
"Traditional testing methods are slow and pick up potential quality errors often too late in the process."
"Our 3DQI cell automates this process, far surpassing traditional inspection in terms of speed, accuracy and repeatability."
"We have developed and piloted our 3DQI technology for automotive applications, including automotive supplier Benteler, and the 3DQI solution has been proven to improve product quality, throughput and safety, while freeing skilled workforce for other tasks."
The solution provides "end-to-end real-time data analysis," says ABB.
All components are included in the ABB RobotStudio Sidio Planner Power Pack for programming, allowing new users to adapt to the 3DQI solution.
