In this article, we will learn about the role of internal transport, establishing the repair area or maintenance and overhaul planning in the area of line maintenance. This knowledge will certainly be helpful to all owners and employees of manufacturing companies.
Importance of maintenance in business
Line maintenance is crucial for ensuring continuity of the manufacturing process. In order to better ensure appropriate line maintenance, we should schedule maintenance and overhauling, and provide the required amount (and ensure the appropriate quality) of tools and devices used in the case of failure. A key aspect is to focus on internal transport during overhaul work. An important part of this process involves granular planning of internal transport of tools and devices used in maintenance works and inspections as well as appropriate management of the spare part warehouse. We already mentioned the role of spare parts in this article (link to one of the previous articles). Maintenance and overhaul works should be planned according to the preventive maintenance scheduling system, thanks to which we can objectively assess the need for overhauls.
What other factors affect line maintenance?
Improving line maintenance relies on appropriate overhaul planning, preparing cost estimates, considering the amount of effort needed for maintenance and overhauling as well as the need for spare parts and materials.
When planning internal transport, we should consider the following factors: the mass of the transported object, route,
means of transport, number of people assigned for transport and transport duration. If everything is well-planned, this will have a beneficial effect on line maintenance and the manufacturing process in general. The time needed for the delivery of spare parts to the repair area relies to a great extent on the perfect organization of internal transport. If we analyze and streamline this process, this will translate into impeccable line maintenance.
Whenever there is a failure, it is crucial to establish the repair area – we can either repair the device on-site or transport it to another facility. This will depend on the size of the object to be transported, transport duration, weight of the object, availability of means of transport, necessity to disconnect the machine from power supply and transport costs.
